In zone 5a, the last spring frost usually comes around May 4 and the first fall frost around Oct 3. Here is when to plant lemons.
Note: winters in zone 5a are usually too cold for lemons to survive outdoors. Grow it in a large pot and move it into a garage or indoors for winter.

- May 18: Plant lemons in the bed (first harvest next year)
Outdoors year-round only in zone 9 and warmer. Elsewhere, keep it in a pot and bring it in for winter.
